Our Mission

We aspire to create inclusive spaces for children of all abilities in order to provide children with disabilities and special needs the opportunity to feel true belonging and acceptance. We strive to provide advocacy and education to help our community become stronger, more compassionate, and more inclusive for all!

  • Magro Speech Therapy works in collaboration with St. Bonaventure School of Business (and other incredible departments/clubs) to bring you this incredible event! Our goal is to provide your child and family with an awesome experience, all while engaging college students in real-life learning opportunities.

Through their participation in planning for and participating in this event, students gain valuable insights into the needs and strengths of people with disabilities, fostering empathy and understanding. This collaboration aims to create a more inclusive community, empowering future professionals and leaders to advocate for accessibility, diversity, and inclusion everywhere!

  • Magro Speech Therapy is proud to partner with community members and local businesses to create this inclusive event. Our sponsors work to provide a fun, safe, and accessible experience for all families while fostering a sense of unity and support.

By sponsoring or hosting tables, community members play a crucial role in building an environment where every child feels valued and celebrated. Together, we strive to make our community more inclusive, demonstrating the power of collaboration and kindness in creating meaningful, joyful experiences for everyone.

FAQs

Answers to our most frequently asked questions!

  • Nope! Everyone is welcome, no matter their age. While most of our participants tend to be between ages 2–16, we know many individuals with disabilities beyond that age range would also enjoy and benefit from participating!

We’d love to see more of our “older” community members join us for the fun!

  • This event is designed specifically with children and individuals with special needs in mind. Creating a space that truly prioritizes accessibility, comfort, security, and enjoyment requires thoughtful planning and careful consideration.

We take into account things like noise levels, crowd size, physical accessibility, sensory and communication supports, and the types of treats and activities offered. By keeping the event limited to this community, we can ensure that these accommodations remain effective and that every participant feels safe, supported, and included.

  • When you arrive, you’ll enter the Richter Center and check in at registration. From there, you’ll be welcomed into a large gym space where tables are set up around the basketball court.

Each table is hosted by a local business, community member, or SBU student group. Families can move around freely, visit tables in any order/pace you desire, collect treats (both edible and non-edible), play games, and enjoy other fun activities.

You can also expect an accessible environment for people of all physical abilities.

  • YES! Please do invite your child’s friends and family to join (just be sure to register them as well). A primary goal of our events is to create an environment where people with disabilities and different needs can participate, have fun, and make lasting memories alongside the people that mean the most to them!

  • We are intentional about making this event welcoming for people of all abilities. We work hard to modify and accommodate as much as possible! You can expect:

sensory-friendly environment free of sudden noises, loud music, scary decorations, or flashing lights. While the event may feel busy at times, we’re excited to introduce our new “Calm Corner”! This will be a a quiet, cozy tent space where anyone can take a break and reset if needed.

An accessible environment with wide, clear walkways, good lighting, and no uneven sidewalks to navigate.

  • Yes! We know not everyone can, or wants to, enjoy traditional Halloween candy. That’s why many tables will offer non-edible treats (like small toys, stickers, or fidgets) as well as games and activities to participate in.

This way, every person, no matter their dietary needs, allergies, or preferences can fully enjoy a trick-or-treating experience and go home with something special.

  • Yes! Magro Speech Therapy partners with incredible local businesses to fund this event. We know how few and far between the options are for children with disabilities and different needs, and it is part of our mission to do our part in creating these opportunities!
